One of the aspects of getting to HIGHER LEVEL MINISTRY is to understand that Man is a 3-part being — Spirit-Mind-Body — and we must cultivate the Spirit so it dominates the Mind and Body. Not a whole lot needs to be said about the physical part of man. Perhaps the one thing we need to say is that too often we focus too much on the needs of our physical body and not enough on what really matters. The Bible says that while man looks on the outward appearance, God looks on the heart. The Mind is the seat of our passions, desires and, interesting enough, houses our intellect, governing how we react and behave. The Spirit is where we commune with God and how much dominance it has in the 3-part realm is testament to where we are in our relationship with Him.
Galatians 5:22, 23 lists nine words that describe the Fruit of the Spirit. When we have this fruit in our lives, it’s like proof we are becoming Christ-like by our actions and behavior. We learned recently in Bible Study that as believers we have two natures within us: 1) One that is fleshly that is influenced by the desires of the flesh and 2) One that is spiritual that is influenced by the desires of the Holy Spirit. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are in a constant battle fighting our own flesh that has an appetite for sin. The process of the Spirit dominating the Mind and Body is a demanding one. You see, the way you feed your Spirit is by renewing your Mind with the Word of God. The Word, through faith in the Word, strengthens our Spirit. This takes place in the Mind. We must continue to grow and be connected to God through prayer, Bible study and meditation as this is how the breath of the Spirit will come through us and make our witness alive and powerful.
In the course of becoming like Christ and HIGHER LEVEL MINISTRY we will need to place top priority in renovating and growing our inner man. If our spirit man continues to grow from the inside out we will one day grow so big that it will fight the demons and break all the yokes surrounding us. Our goal is HIGHER LEVEL MINISTRY and we must strive to openly display the Fruit of the Spirit. When we grow the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives we show that Jesus is in us. I’m truly excited about this year’s theme – HIGHER LEVEL MINISTRY, and hope you will join me regularly at Bible Study as we seek to improve our lives by seeking the Heart of God. Remember the promise of Jesus: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

We’ve heard the stories of Genesis. Throughout its pages, is the central and constant theme: God spoke and a corresponding action or manifestation occurred. “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” (Genesis 1:3.) If you hold any doubt about how powerful words are, think about this for a moment: God created the heavens and the earth with words. Why is this significant? Because you are made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26); you have creative power and just like God, you create your world with your words!
Who hasn’t spoken jokingly or playfully at some time or another? We’ve all done it. Statements like, “That makes me sick” or “This is what kills me.” should quickly disappear from our lips. As Christians, we have the responsibility to speak with wisdom and sensitivity and understand the value of our words. Walking in love and considering another person’s feelings before speaking are vital to the spiritual growth and maturity of a Christian. We can avoid offending others when we use wisdom with our words and operate in love at all times. Allowing our emotions to rule our verbal responses is the ticket to provoking offense in others. Anger and frustration are not excuses for speaking negatively to someone, especially when we know that our words could hurt the other person. Remember, as it says in Proverbs 18:21, the power of life and death are in the tongue.
Whether consciously or not, we all at one time have hurt or offended someone with our words. Whether in the workplace, between close friends or simple exchanges with the cashier at the grocery store, each interaction has the potential to make or break a person’s spirit. It is important to check your motives and think before you speak. Are the words you speak coming from a heart of love or one of selfishness? Are you speaking to hurt or heal? Inspire or destroy?
Ephesians 4:29 state “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” No matter what it is you are attempting to communicate, getting your point across starts with choosing your words wisely. Your words have the potential to either give life or cause something to die in another person, so use wisdom. Moreover, be certain that you speak without malice and without intending to invoke anger or negative emotions in another person.
I have come to realize that few things are more important than the words we speak. Therefore, we must never underestimate the power of our words, either through ignorance or neglect. Words are seeds and, good or bad, they will bring forth a harvest. Let’s tend to our words carefully. Speak Life! Be Positive! The state of our souls, the health of our church and the world that is watching are all impacted by them.

The more I meditate on the Word of God and study His character, the more I gain revelation of certain truths about who He is and how He operates. One thing I love about God is that He is not a harsh dictator who forces us to do anything; He is a loving God, who has given each of us the power to make his or her own choices.
Oftentimes, many people view the Christian lifestyle as confining, with a long list of rules and regulations. However, this isn’t the case at all. The Word of God gives us clear instructions about how we are to live as Believers. I often tell people who are struggling to do what the Word says, if you “concentrate on doing the do’s, you won’t have time to do the don’ts.” Think about it – when you are right in the middle of dealing with a problem, and your emotions are high, you tend to do the opposite of what you should do. There is power in choice. God can’t and won’t make us do anything, and the devil certainly can’t force us into anything we don’t willingly agree to. For this reason, the responsibility for the direction of our lives is in our hands. Jesus said He came to bring life, and life more abundantly (John 10:10); but it is up to us to make the decision to choose His way.
God created specific guidelines for us to follow so that we could experience and enjoy abundant life. He wants us to live free from the negative consequences of sin, sickness, poverty and bondage. He never designed His commandments for you to feel encumbered. Neither were they designed to make you feel worse than you already do when you miss the mark. You must keep in mind that the letter of the law kills, but the spirit of the law gives life (2 Corinthians 3:6).
As you continue to walk with God, however, you must begin training yourself in the Word. This takes a quality decision to obey God’s Word at all costs, regardless of your circumstances. Living a sin-free lifestyle is simply a decision. Once you make that decision, all of heaven will back you up and equip you to DO what you need to DO. When you are tempted to sin, remind yourself that disobedience comes with a price. Romans 6:23 says that the “wages of sin is death.” From your thoughts to your deeds, everything is a seed that will produce a harvest in your life. God wants to make sure that the harvest that grows in our life is good. So, get in line with His way of thinking. When you find yourself in the middle of a battle, take a moment to ask yourself, “Am I DOING what I know to DO?” Here are some of the things we can DO that will be helpful toward HIGHER LEVEL MINISTRY:
Let’s focus our attention on “doing the do’s.” By concentrating on what the Bible says to do, such as praying, giving thanks and praising God daily, we’ll find that we just don’t have time to worry about the “don’ts.” As you learn more, you can DO more, and your confidence will increase. But for now, concentrate on doing the DO’S.
