Healing

Believers need to be willing to share their material possessions for the promotion of the Gospel and to help those in need. Good stewardship stems from recognizing our relationship to Jesus Christ, but it also means recognizing our partnership in Christ’s enterprise on earth.

Bereavement

OUR MISSION:

A group of clergy, lay and other professionals who pray, comfort, console and support families and individuals grieving/mourning the transition of a loved one.

OUR PURPOSE:

Meet the needs of bereaved individuals in the church and the community.

WHY DO WE DO THIS?

The loss of someone we love and care about is never easy to cope with or to integrate. Even when the loss is expected, when the moment arrives, our senses are assaulted and our hearts turned upside down with confusing feelings. No two people will experience loss in the same way, no matter how similar the relationships may have been.

The period of time through which people go after the loss of a loved one is called bereavement. There is no way to determine how long our state of bereavement will last. It may last for a few short months, or it may last for a number of years. Everyone will experience the bereavement period and the grief journey differently just as we will find unique ways to mourn all our losses.

This can be a stressful time for family and friends. The Bereavement Ministry works with families to provide spiritual guidance through the bereavement process. We extend compassion, support, Christian love, and spiritual resources to our members, their families and the community during this very difficult time.

Health and Wellness

OUR MISSION:

We seek to educate, empower and inspire individuals to live healthy lives by focusing on mind, body and spirit.

OUR PURPOSE:

To serve as a resource that enhances awareness through health education and outreach.

ABOUT US:

The Health & Wellness Ministry offers services that strive to equip the church and the surrounding community with everyday tools to live mentally, physically and spiritually healthy lives. The ministry encompasses General Practitioners, Registered Nurses (RN’s), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN’s), Nurse Practitioners, Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, Dental Hygienists, X-Ray Technicians and Healthcare Administrators. The ministry is also comprised of a host of non-medical/healthcare professionals ministering because of their passion, for the health and wellness of our community.

The Health & Wellness Ministry at Morning Star is active and on-the-move with monthly seminars, screenings and the distribution of literature to promote health education. One of the mainstays, known as “Healthy Sunday” focuses on health and/or disease awareness and education. The topics of these 45 – 60 minute seminars highlight and support a national effort. The seminar structure is lecture-style followed by questions and answers, which fosters open discussion by our in-house and/or invited medical professionals and the community. Some of the topics covered have included:

  • “Read the Labels” for Healthy Nutrition
  • Healthy Habits for a Healthy Smile
  • How to Manage Stress 101: Stress and Relaxation
  • Alzheimer’s Disease – Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters
  • Stroke Awareness
  • Minorities and Mental Health
  • Bone Marrow & Tissue Donation: Learn More About Sickle Cell Anemia

All seminars are held after each worship service, fourth Sunday of every month.
