History
Morning Star Community Christian Center is a multi-cultural, multi-generational, interdenominational, Christian-based church located in Linden, New Jersey has an ongoing passion for seeing people excel in every area of life. Morning Star’s mission is and always has been, changing lives, discipling believers, and impacting the world! Morning Star has a dynamic, growing membership that has expanded its outreach ministry by serving families from surrounding communities providing educational and wellness programs, a food pantry and soup kitchen, a substance abuse recovery program, housing the homeless during winter months, and delivering thousands of Thanksgiving baskets to economically disadvantaged families and individuals.
Morning Star was founded in 1967 by the late Bishop Irvin Evans, along with his wife Constine, and has evolved into lives being restored and destinies fulfilled. In 1999, their son, Dr. Therman Evans took over the pastorate and is currently the senior pastor. The message of “wholeness” in mind, body, and spirit, and helping people find their way back to God has contributed to Morning Star’s increased 800+ membership under the visionary leadership of Dr. Evans.
Morning Star has established several other initiatives to help serve people and meet their needs. Some initiatives include:
- Weekly youth activities and mentoring program
- Annual scholarships for high school seniors going to college
- Senior citizen program and activities
- Bereavement counseling
- Child Care services
- Morning Star Community Dev. Urban Renewal Corporation, a 501 (c) (3), nonprofit organization, to help manage other vital community services
Through these programs, lives have been positively impacted and transformed through God’s power and saving grace. Families are being healed, marriages reconciled and individual lives restored.
Senior Pastor Therman E. Evans, MD, PhD has served with commitment, diligence and humility in concentrated community development building God’s Kingdom through and educational efforts. He has led his congregation in establishing 34 outreach ministries, committed to serving the needs of the congregation, the community and the world. Thousands of lives have been changed through the messages of “wholeness” in mind, body and spirit taught by Dr. Evans.
Morning Star and Dr. Evans tap into a growing global audience who enter the digital-sphere through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. The ministry’s live stream broadcast reaches thousands of homes in four continents, and continues to make an impact for emotional and physical healing by spreading the Gospel of grace.
